In my case, the drive was partially readable with ntfsread, but corrupted, and making noises, so I've maybe got one or two attempts to salvage my photos before all hope is lost. Would either one of these products save the day, and if so, which would be better for the task? Thanks!

If you can access the directory structure use Unstoppable Copier and copy the files off. If you want to keep the drive layout in tact and make an identical copy of it, use RawCopy!
