I have downloaded Roadkil's Disk Wipe utility. I am wanting to completely wipe out a Western Digital 2 TB Caviar Green SATA Intellipower 32 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive WD20EADS that I ordered from Amazon.com. I have the drive hooked up to my Dell Inspiron E1505 via a USB SATA drive reader. Everything seems to be working correctly and the drive is recognized properly in the Roadkil utility. However, when the wiping process got to about 7% complete, the percent complete started to flash. What does this mean? The percent complete continues to go up (very slowly), but would like to know what the flashing means. Also, when selecting the Blank Disk radio button like I did, what does that really mean? What type of wiping methodology is being used? DOD short or standard? Finally, I have Passes made set to 7 since I thought this was the DOD standard. I am wanting to securely wipe everything off the hard drive ... I am trying to troubleshoot if it's defective or not and if I have to send it back, I want all data to be not recoverable.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rick

instead of leaving the system with intact data, randomizing, unrecognizable, yet still in peices, scattered about the hard drive, the blankdisk sets everything back to 0. the idea ia as viruses develop and become smaller they remain intact. randomized is probably faster. as for the blinking, it probably because its got to run on little memory so it can move itself to a blankspot and reinstall drivers to run on, visuals probably wasnt high on this programmers priorities. they have a 1.2
