I've just copied a directory containing various subdirectories and 437,193 files from one drive to another. Initially, the directory at the destination drive was completely empty (having just been created for the purpose).

However, Unstoppable Copier reported that 16 files were skipped. The message in the log file says that the file was "Skipped (Target - The file exists.)".

Here, I must point out that the settings switch "Overwrite Existing Files" was deselected (unticked).

Presumably, the file that was copied immediately before the skip caused the problem as its filename was 'sufficiently close' to cause Windows to be confused over the short name and considers it a duplicate. (I've not experienced this issue previously in Unstoppable Copier as I've had "Overwrite" enabled.

For an exact picture, here are four successive lines from the log file, the two middle lines are the ones in question:

G:\G\ D_HOLD_2012-01A\recov\My Pictures (1).jpg -> E:\G\ D_HOLD_2012-01A\recov\My Pictures (1).jpg - Copied Successfully
G:\G\ D_HOLD_2012-01A\recov\M_ROLL~1 (1).GIF -> E:\G\ D_HOLD_2012-01A\recov\M_ROLL~1 (1).GIF - Copied Successfully
G:\G\ D_HOLD_2012-01A\recov\M_ROLL~1.GIF -> E:\G\ D_HOLD_2012-01A\recov\M_ROLL~1.GIF - Skipped (Target - The file exists.)
G:\G\ D_HOLD_2012-01A\recov\N1(1)~1.ICO -> E:\G\ D_HOLD_2012-01A\recov\N1(1)~1.ICO - Copied Successfully

Note: The file "M_ROLL~1 (1).GIF" became named this way when, during an earlier copy, programs like Directory Opus renamed it on-the-fly rather than overwrite an existing file at the destination with the same filename. Note also the spaces between "\" and "D" [G\ D_HOLD_2012-01A\...] are not typos. I often use leading spaces in directory names to force important or 'work directories' to the top of the tree/list (Windows not having any other convenient way of doing so).

I should note that I've seen this issue with other copy programs, D. Opus for instance, which seems to indicate it might be a Windows bug (this OS being XP-sp3).

Would much appreciate any ideas or workarounds.
